While sangria recipes are traditionally made with a bottle of white wine, we know that this isn’t everyone’s first choice. Some may find it isn’t their flavor of choice, others may find it too expensive, and others simply don’t want to run to the store and would rather use what they have on hand!
Here’s a handy list of alternative alcohols that can be used to substitute the white wine. Hopefully, you have at least one of these in your cooler or cupboard right now!
White Wine Alternatives:
- Peach Schnapps
- Rum
- Vodka
- Champagne
- White Zinfandel
- Brandy
- Red Wine
- Triple Sec

"Sangria recipes are so versatile. If you don't want to use (or don't have) a bottle of wine, you can substitute other tasty beverages to make it into a punch recipe.
There are 750ml (about 3 1/4 cups) in a bottle of wine, so aim to use about that much liquid as a substitute. You could use various fruit juices or lemon-lime soda. Just omit any other sugar until the end and add to taste - with the sweeter juice and soda you may find you don't need it.
If you still want some alcohol in this recipe, then add your liquor of choice along with the juice or soda. Try 1/2 cup - 1 cup of rum, vodka, or brandy. You could also add two types of liquor, such as 1/2 cup triple sec and 1/2 cup rum. Enjoy!"
