Simple Seashell Bowl
Seashell decor is always popular during the summer months and the Simple Seashell Bowl is no exception to this rule. With this simple summer craft you will be able to transform your bathroom into a beachy getaway. With a simple handmade decoration for summer like the one below, you won't need to shop until you drop to redesign your house for the season. If you have a beach house that is in need of some fresh looks, this summer craft idea is a great one to work on during an extra steamy day, too.
Materials:
- Home Decor Bisque Designs: Round Ornament 3.0 x 3.0 x 0.25 (31520), Star Ornament 3.5 x 3.0 x 0.25 (31517)
- Duncan Concepts Underglazes for Bisque: Bright Salsa, Light Scarlet, Light Blush
- Dinnerware Bisque Designs: Small Shell Bowl 8.5" x 7.25" x 2.5"
- Signature Brushes: Liner, Fan Glaze, Round
- Duncan French Dimensions: French Really Red
- Duncan Shimmer Glazes: Ruby), Zircon Orange
- Duncan Pure Brilliance Clear Glaze
- Container for water
- Scissors
- Sand, coarse
- Thin gold and colored wire or colored strings for embellishment
- Masking tape
- Foil or foam plate for paint palette
- Sticky backed felt
- Paper towels
- Glue
- Potter’s sponge
- Condiment container
Instructions:
Shell
- Wipe bowl with damp sponge to remove bisque dust.
- Brush one good coat Light Scarlet to outside of bowl and mainly in the crevices.
- Antique outer bowl by wiping back the paint leaving the Light Scarlet in the crevices. Let dry.
- Brush three coats Light Blush to inside bowl. Brush a few random strokes of Light Scarlet to the wet paint. Let dry.
- Use Fan Glaze brush to paint two coats Light Blush to outer side of bowl allowing the Light Scarlet in the crevices to show through. Let dry.
- Use Fan Glaze brush dipped in Zircon Orange Shimmer Glaze and dab on top edge of bowl. Brush down outer sides tapering as you near bottom. Repeat with inner part of bowl laying heavier concentration of Shimmers at the top edge and brushing down in the upper area. Let dry.
- Brush a light coat of Pure Brilliance to bowl. Let dry.
- Stilt and fire to cone 06.
Jellyfish
- Wipe ornament with damp sponge to remove bisque dust.
- Brush three coats Light Blush to front and back of round ornament. Let dry.
- Use Liner brush and paint small circle around the hole and thin lines going to bottom of ornament (refer to photo). Let dry.
- Using Fan Glaze brush, paint a heavier concentration of Zircon Orange Shimmer Glazes at the very bottom of ornament and lightly brush upward blending into the base color. Let dry.
- Apply a light coat of Pure Brilliance to front and back of ornament. Let dry.
- Stilt and fire to cone 06.
- Cut few strands of wire/string approximately 6” long. Lay strands across piece of tape. Glue to back of ornament.
- Cut round piece of felt to fit over the glued wire, adhere.
Starfish
- Wipe all ware with damp sponge to remove bisque dust.
- Brush one coat Bright Salsa to front and back of Star. Let dry.
- In condiment container, mix a little sand into some Bright Salsa to create a textured color.
- Brush two coats to starfish. Let dry.
- Use French Dimensions French Really Red to make dots along legs and body as shown in photo. Let dry.
- Brush a light coat of Ruby Shimmer Glazes along sides and front of starfish. Let dry.
- Stilt and fire to cone 06.
